Nothing sells like success, or so they say, and amid the epic Formula 1 season of 1976, the Hunt v Lauda battle, that was very much the case.

In the immediate aftermath of James Hunt securing the title amid the rains of Suzuka, on 28 October 1976, Autosport was awash with ads either congratulating the new world champion or trying to linking themselves with his success.

Goodyear were understandably among that number having provided the rubber that kept Hunt’s McLaren on track. If it was good enough for the world champ, it’s good enough for your Ford Escort was the subtext.
